A car has about 30,000 parts. Various parts and components may be tainted by slavery. For example, the electronics in a car may contain gold that was mined by slaves. The electronic system that used the slave-mined gold may itself have been manufactured by slaves. The steel in the car's frame may contain iron that itself was made in furnaces fired by slave-made charcoal. Unfortunately, once the slave-made goods get into international chains of commerce they become mingled with non-slave-made goods. In sum, it is very difficult to point at any given car and state which parts, if any, of that car, are slave-made. The solution is for the car manufacturers to ensure that all their parts are slave-free.
